How Kweku Sampson Lost Weight and Transformed His Life

Home - Blog Detail

Weight loss is not just about numbers on a scale—it’s about regaining control of your health, energy, and confidence. In this episode of Health, Beauty & Purpose, I sat down with Reverend Kweku Sampson to discuss his inspiring weight loss journey—the struggles, the breakthroughs, and the mindset shifts that helped him succeed.

I’ve Always Been Big”—The Journey Begins

From childhood, Kweku was known as the “big kid.” Despite occasional weight loss, especially in high school, maintaining a healthy weight was always a challenge. Like many, he tried different approaches but found himself gaining weight again after university.

It wasn’t until a hospital visit revealed high blood sugar levels that reality hit. With a family history of diabetes, Kweku realized that his health was on the line.

The Turning Point: Finding What Works

Kweku knew he had to take weight loss seriously but struggled with traditional workouts. His solution? Swimming.

I don’t like the gym—I tried it for three days and quit! But I love swimming, so I made it part of my routine.”

By combining swimming with daily walks, he created a sustainable exercise habit.

The Role of Food: It’s Not Just About Eating Less

At first, Kweku thought that eating twice a day would help. Instead, he realized that portion control and food choices mattered more.

“I was eating only twice a day, but I ate a lot. The quantity was the problem.”

His strategy included:

✔ Cutting down portion sizes

✔ Avoiding late-night eating

✔ Understanding his body composition to know what worked

Mindset Shifts: Weight Loss is a Lifelong Journey

Losing weight wasn’t just about food and exercise—it was a mental transformation.

At first, I felt like I was wasting time on exercise. But I had to shift my mindset. Prioritizing health is not a waste of time—it’s an investment in myself.”

Kweku also shared how weight loss boosted his confidence and how people reacted to his transformation:

“Some asked if I was sick! Others congratulated me. But the biggest change was how I felt about myself.”

Faith and Weight Loss: The Connection

As a Christian, Kweku found that his spiritual life impacted his physical health.

When I’m spiritually strong—when I prioritize my quiet time and prayer—I find it easier to stay disciplined in my eating and exercise.”

This aligns with the Health, Beauty & Purpose philosophy: when you take care of your health, you unlock the energy and discipline to achieve your life goals.
